have a little heart

We're studying the heart in A&P2. These are some pics of a model I took the other morning so I could study from home (these models have been numbered - that totally makes for better studying).

Side note- that is Brooke S's hand striking a pose while holding one of them up. She has been through this whole trek with me since I started going back to school last year.

So here I go again talking about the gym - the heart and fitness.
Back when I was at my heaviest - it would be nothing for my heart rate to be around 100+ bpm.
Just sitting on my Arse.
That is really bad.
Now that I've been working out religiously - and getting my heart muscle stronger it's getting better.
The other day in class our instructor was talking about this subject.
So I secretly took my pulse.... just sitting there - my pulse was 80.
Much better than what it use to be.
If you take two people with the same body weight... one who works out and one who is a couch potato.... even though they are the same weight - their hearts are not the same.
The heart is a muscle.
Working out makes for a stronger heart. With a stronger heart you get a better stoke volume with your blood - a better pulse. The weaker heart has a poor stroke volume and it has to work harder resulting in a higher pulse.

And it feels like crap to have a high pulse like that.... I know.... just saying :)
Make your heart muscle strong!
